HAVING A HEALTHY LIVER

Happy Hepatitis Day

Happy Hepatitis or Happy Liver Day, yay!!! and today being that we are going to be looking at some tips and certain food to promote a healthy liver and certain foods to also avoid…. Let’s get right into it:

The Liver is a key player in your body’s digestive process, it is a powerhouse, everything you eat or drink, including medicine, passes through it. It is about the size of a football and sits under your lower ribcage on the right side, performing a variety of essential tasks, ranging from the production of cholesterol and special proteins to help carry fats through the body, and producing bile to storing vitamins, minerals and even carbohydrates.

It also breaks down toxins like alcohol, medications and natural byproducts of metabolism, therefore keeping your liver in good shape is important, so it can do its job, maintaining proper health and wellness.

In caring for your liver there are certain food that should be reduced and certain lifestyle activities that should be limited, we will be highlighting some of these, and they include:

  • Alcohol
  • Added sugar
  • Fried foods
  • Salt
  • White bread, rice, and pasta
  • Red meat
  • Fast/Snack foods

Now we move on to certain food that are excellent for the liver:

  • Oatmeal
  • Coffee, it’s not know how it does it thing but research shows that it can lower your risk of getting liver disease
  • Green Tea
  • Water, there is this popular thing a friend always says to me, “Water therapy is the best” and honestly I can’t argue with this fact as water is not only essential for the liver but all parts of the human body and systems.
  • Vegetables
  • Nuts
  • Berries, blueberries to be exact
  • Herbs and spices
  • Supplements
  • Fatty Fish, fish rich in Omega 3

Bottom line is that, your liver is an important organ with many essential functions, therefore, it makes sense to do what you can to protect it.

Having routine checkups, regular exercises coupled with the foods listed above have demonstrated beneficial effects on the liver. These include lowering the risk of liver disease and cancer, raising antioxidant and detoxification enzyme levels and offering protection from harmful toxins.
